Goal setting is a huge part of achieving financial success, in terms of how you view success. In today's climate with COVID-19, #BlackLivesMatter, an election year, increase volatility in the stock market, and so much more; accomplishing financial goals can have you suffering from exhaustion. With exhaustion comes a lapse in judgment which can end in poor decision making with money. We know the problem, so how do we over come exhaustion?
1. Rest
The best way to overcome exhaustion is take some time to rest! This is something my wife has to remind me of all the time so don't feel like you're alone. As you pursue your financial goals it's a grind. You may work extra hours or two jobs for a set time which can be exhausting. In the midst of this, schedule time to rest and recover.
This will help you keep mental stability so your decisions with money don't become hyper impulsive. Also, it can help renew hope in completing goals especially when financial goals can take 2-5 years to accomplish.
2. Don't Be Counterproductive
I know counterproductive seems like a fancy word but all it means is don't shoot yourself in the foot! As we get tired and exhausted there is a tendency to throw our hands up and say, "I'M DONE WITH THIS!!". Then we may go on a spending crazy which ultimately can push back whatever financial goals we may have. This is exhausting causing counter-productivity.
This is why rest is important when exhausted because if we stay in the cycle of (for example) working hard thus saving well one month, getting exhausted then spending it all the next month unfortunately we are back where we started!
Bonus Tip: Keep track of where you are in your financial goals. Not only so you know where you are going but in the times of exhaustion you can look back to see how far you've come. It helps in your journey to stay motivated and encouraged (I've been there before, so I know exhaustion is real).
Don't let exhaustion get the best of you, instead rest if you must but don't quit! And watch for the temptation that weariness brings, stay focused and disciplined while choosing Faith over Fear for your Finances!
